Scientist in Data Science and Energy Systems (f/m/d)

The opportunity:

We are looking for a research scientist with expertise in data science and energy systems to join our Research Center in Mannheim (Germany). You will join a dynamic, motivated and creative team with a broad range of experience and competences. As part of our team, you will combine theory with practice, creating, testing and validating new technologies to enable the energy transition.

How you'll make an impact:

• You take initiative: Collaborate with a global and inter-disciplinary team of researchers in Hitachi Energy Research to drive the development from concept to MVP and partner with product/software teams to bring solutions to production. You propose novel ideas and concepts for the next next generation of power systems.

• You collaborate:  Build relationships within the company and actively share your knowledge and expertise. Collaborate with our global team in Hitachi Energy Research and our business units to identify and solve complex research challenges for our customers. Interact with local and global external partners; this can include universities, start-ups, and vendors to integrate diverse perspectives and stakeholder inputs.

• You investigate:  Create, run and exploit new approaches of data-driven solutions with business impact, turn them into prototypes or advanced concepts and verify them; ensure reproducibility with versioned code and data. 

• You communicate:  Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports. Produce clear design docs and developer-facing examples/ notebooks that enable reuse.

Your background: 

• PhD degree or Master with equivalent industrial experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Economics or any related field.

• Experience energy systems (e.g. power systems)  and machine learning algorithms, deep learning and/or time-series forecasting (amongst others).

• ​Electricity market knowledge is an advantage.

• Proficiency in programming - Python and/or similar high-level language is a must; Tensorflow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, Nixtla etc. is an advantage.

• Excellent leadership and communication skills, team player attitude, initiative, and creativity. Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
