Hardware Engineer - Mechanical

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and researchers
  • Producing CAD models, technical drawings, specifications, assembly instructions, and testing plans for parts and assemblies
  • Daily hands-on prototyping, testing, and debugging
  • Participation in collaborative hardware and system design across teams
  • Establishing and maintaining a culture of engineering best practices

    Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of working experience in an engineering occupation, with a preference for 3+ years of robotic engineering experience
  • Mastery of at least one 3D CAD system (Solidworks, OnShape, or similar) and experience navigating version control (PDM, Windchill, or similar) with multiple contributors on large assemblies
  • Extensive experience in DFM and DFA including creation and ownership of technical drawings, proper use of GD&T, tolerance analysis and experience performing part inspection and verification
  • Deep knowledge of engineering analysis tools (Simulation, FEA, Python, Matlab)
  • Hands on experience with common mechanical prototyping tools and processes (mills, lathes, printers, laser cutters, etc)
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, maintaining, and fielding mobile robots including related safety and operation
  • Experience designing for various fabrication methods such as CNC, sheet metal, injection molding and casting
  • Strong background in design best practices for rugged/field-deployable systems, including troubleshooting failures, integrating sensors, compute, cable routing, and designing to IP requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, including communicating technical requirements across cross-functional teams, and communicating technical requirements and specifications to vendors
  • Team player, excited to work on cutting-edge robotics

  • Proficient in integrating complex hardware components, ensuring seamless operation across robotics platforms
  • Demonstrated experience designing, manufacturing and testing custom actuation for robotic systems, especially integrating frameless pairs for rotary actuation
  • Deep expertise in one or more of the following areas: robotic actuation, system-level architecture for complex electromechanical systems, safety-minded best practices for human-interfacing systems, complex mechanism design
