Sr Software Engineer
Yahoo Finance is seeking an exceptional engineer to build scalable systems powering our Personal Finance products for 240 million monthly users. Working with our Tech Lead, you'll architect and develop services that help users optimize their finances and achieve their goals. This role demands technical excellence, pragmatic execution, and close collaboration with our product team to deliver impactful features that transform how users manage their money.
*This is a hybrid role requiring 2x/week onsite in the Bay Area.

Responsibilities
Design, build, document, and maintain scalable distributed systems within our monorepo that power our personal finance platform
Develop AI-powered features that help users optimize their financial growth and deliver actionable insights
Expand our personal finance applications with features that help users achieve their financial goals
Contribute to product strategy as a stakeholder, collaborating across teams to ensure cohesive user experiences
Implement and monitor systems with appropriate metrics to ensure quality and performance
Participate in design and code reviews to maintain and improve engineering standards
Share knowledge and mentor team members as needed
Technical Qualifications
Required:
BS in Computer Science or a related major, or equivalent experience
Strong backend development experience, preferably in Kotlin/Java
Experience with modern backend frameworks and API development
Moderate to high level of proficiency working in Linux-based environments
Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (Terraform)
Experience with cloud providers (AWS, GCP) and serverless architectures (AWS Lambda)
Experience with TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks
Experience with observability and implementing OpenTelemetry standards
Experience designing and implementing distributed systems at scale
Solid understanding of API design principles and best practices
Demonstrated ability to write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code
Nice to Have:
Experience with multi-project Gradle
Familiarity with SvelteKit or similar frontend frameworks
Experience with AI/ML integration in production applications
Knowledge of the fintech domain
Experience with notification systems or event-driven architectures
Familiarity with GraphQL
Experience with cloud-native development patterns

The compensation for this position ranges from $128,250.00 - $266,875.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
