Our Supply Chain team is looking for an experienced Packaging Buyer to drive impact and deliver results that enable our Packaging and Material Flow teams to achieve delivery, financial, and other performance goals. The Packaging Buyer will support our global operations, parts and prototypes, equipment, and supply chain services. We develop partnerships with our internal Supply Chain teams and third-party external suppliers to build a world-class supply chain that builds the Motortrend Car of the Year, Lucid Air.
This position will focus on packaging sourcing and be in a team of indirect sourcing professionals, owning supplier and partner relationships, defining the category and supply base strategy, management, and negotiating RFQ packages, vendor contracts, Master Service Agreements, and other related contractual execution activities. You Will:
- Lead and manage the Packaging Sourcing category and own the engagements at all levels with vendors and related partners. This includes ownership for sourcing a variety of racks for stamping parts, interior trim, battery packs, powertrain parts, molded parts, exterior trim, and tires. Additional packaging will include returnable totes, dollies, gravity racks, tow hitches, casters, and foam inserts.
- Utilize expertise in packaging sourcing, project management, prototype packaging, and service parts packaging. Leverage experience with purchasing corrugated and other packaging materials along with partner insights and requirements to establish and implement market-leading sourcing strategies and supply base strategies. This includes market knowledge, negotiation of service agreements, supplier rationalization, development of industry-leading pricing plans, and total cost of ownership (TCO) cost modeling through transparent supplier relationship management.
- Identify cost optimization opportunities by facilitating internal and partner team collaboration to achieve year-over-year cost and timing improvements.
- Partner with the Packaging Engineering and Material Flow teams to deliver the most aggressive and closest-to-the-pin costing and budget (capex) projections, with the ability to stand up under scrutiny while balancing both cost and performance.
- Develop should cost model for expendable and returnable packaging
- Host QBR and vendor scorecard reviews and work with partners on a range of topics, including operations, invoicing, performance concerns, purchase orders, cost savings, etc.
- Seek and develop new vendors, technologies, and materials to keep Lucid at the forefront of packaging technology.
- Achieve established commitments on total cost results, supply, quality, warranty claims, compliance adherence, and on-time delivery.
You Bring:
- A bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering is required.
- 5+ years of experience in Packaging Purchasing, preferably with an automotive OEM managing multiple global customer segments such as Tier 1 suppliers, Retail, Service Parts, prototypes, capital equipment, etc., in a global setting.
- Direct automotive experience is a plus
- Extensive knowledge of packaging materials, returnable packaging manufacturers, and material vendors.
- Fluent verbal and written communication in English.
- Demonstrated Experience in program management, including critical thinking, strong written and verbal communications, and ability to lead within a matrixed team. (This role is critical to deliver the designed product that was sourced.)
- Experience using market intelligence and trends to drive robust benchmarking and cost validation processes.
- Experience drafting a statement of work, master services agreement, RFQ package, and negotiating contract terms, warranty claims, and contract management.
