Senior Medical Science Liaison
Job Description
About Ataraxis AI
Ataraxis is an AI precision medicine company working at the intersection of multi-modal artificial intelligence and oncology. We develop and deploy AI-native tools to assist physicians in selecting the most optimal treatments for their patients.
Our mission is to change how cancer is treated and impact at least 50% of new cancer cases by 2030. Our first test for breast cancer patients was developed and evaluated in a validation study on over 8,000 patients from 15 international institutions. Ataraxis Breast was shown to improve the accuracy of gold standard tests by 30% and enable testing expansion to 100,000 new patients annually. At Ataraxis, you will have a unique opportunity to shape not only the future of our company, but also the future of healthcare.
At Ataraxis, you will join an exceptional team at the forefront of healthcare-focused AI research and deployment. As a frontier AI lab, we bring together leading AI researchers, medical doctors, and industry veterans. Our advisors include AI pioneers such as Yann LeCun and distinguished oncologists from top cancer research institutions, all united by the mission to redefine precision medicine.
Ataraxis has raised $24 million in funding, including a recent $20.4 million Series A round led by top venture capital funds such as AIX Ventures (Hugging Face, Perplexity), Thiel Capital, Founders Fund (OpenAI, SpaceX, Palantir, Oscar Health), and Obvious Ventures (Recursion). Our company was recently covered in an exclusive story in TechCrunch, "Not all cancer patients need chemo."
We are an AI-native company with a flat organizational structure, where every team member is empowered to actively contribute. Leadership roles are earned by those who demonstrate initiative and consistently deliver exceptional results. Strong work ethic and the ability to prioritize ruthlessly are essential.
Responsibilities
Build and manage trusted relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) in oncology—especially in breast cancer—serving as the scientific face of Ataraxis in the field.
Take over and grow existing high-priority KOL relationships, ensuring continuity, trust, and strategic value as our CEO shifts focus.
Present complex clinical data clearly and credibly in both 1:1 and group settings (e.g., advisory boards, tumor boards, lunch-and-learns).
Lead brand-building initiatives, including hosting advisory boards, cultivating early adopter networks, and elevating Ataraxis’ visibility and reputation in oncology.
Partner with the Commercial team on field visits, sales training, and scientific objection handling to support adoption and accelerate learning cycles.
Contribute to clinical initiatives by facilitating investigator-initiated studies, registries, or validation partnerships and supporting site engagement.
Deliver KOL insight summaries to internal stakeholders, highlighting patterns in clinical behavior, test adoption, and market needs.
Help develop core field resources such as scientific slide decks, clinical evidence summaries, FAQs, and objection-handling guides.
Define and implement foundational Medical Affairs systems, including KOL tracking, insight workflows, and metrics for field effectiveness.
Operate with high autonomy and ownership as the first MSL hire—laying the groundwork for a scalable, high-impact Medical Affairs function.
Qualifications
3-4+ years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison or similar field-based medical role, ideally in oncology.
Background in breast cancer is strongly preferred; existing relationships in the oncology KOL community are a plus, but not required.
Proven excellence in KOL engagement—from initiating new relationships to nurturing long-term scientific collaborations.
Experience translating clinical data and field feedback into structured insights that inform commercial, product, and clinical strategy.
Clear, confident communicator—able to adapt complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences and situations.
Strategic thinker who can also execute tactically—comfortable shifting between big-picture goals and hands-on fieldwork.
Fast learner with the ability to quickly grasp novel technologies, including AI-powered diagnostics.
Self-directed and resourceful—thrives in an early-stage, high-growth environment with limited structure.
Collaborative mindset with experience working cross-functionally across Commercial, Product, and Clinical teams.
Strongly Preferred
Experience supporting product launches or early commercial stages of diagnostics, particularly in breast oncology.
Experience contributing to clinical development, real-world evidence studies, or external research collaborations.
