Job Description
Snapshot
- Research Hacker / SWE (AI, LLMs, Advanced algorithms) -- MTV only
- This role involves developing novel algorithms and AI tools / agents, hacking and prototyping, and exploring to solve exceptionally challenging problems, from infrastructure to user-facing products.
About Us
Artificial Intelligence could be one of humanity’s most useful inventions. At Google DeepMind, we’re a team of scientists, engineers, machine learning experts and more, working together to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority.
The Role
- Our team is a small, agile group of hands-on builders at Google DeepMind. Our mission is to accelerate AI innovation by translating state-of-the-art research into tangible, high-impact products. We are the engineering bridge between fundamental research and practical application, working across project boundaries to initiate, prototype, and co-lead Google's most ambitious AI initiatives. If you are eager to thrive on turning ambiguous, complex problems into cutting-edge solutions in foundational AI or its applications, you will be at home here.
- What we are working on: Cutting edge exploration of AGI, including how to use knowledge / memory to enhance LLM, and foundational AI tooling: Engineer scalable, reusable tools and libraries for building better and more powerful AI-driven products.
- You will engineer cutting-edge solutions with AI to further strength AI:
- Balance rapid, exploratory prototyping with the discipline to write clean, scalable code, and are adept at charting a clear path forward through complex and ambiguous problem spaces.
- Apply Software Engineering and AI/ML principles to solve real-world problems in domains like search, ranking, deep learning, or large-scale distributed systems (not necessarily to have all of them).
- Keep an innate curiosity and a drive to invent, with a passion for learning and applying cutting-edge technologies (including GenAI) through close partnership with world-class research and product teams.
About You
In order to set you up for success as a Software Engineer at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:
Requirements:
- Willingness to work on ambiguous, ill-defined problems, refining final goals as new information is learned.
- Deep understanding of Machine Learning, Machine Learning Algorithms
- Industrial experience with Generative AI, Generative AI Agent
- Python expert; familiar with C++
In addition, the following would be an advantage:
- A proven track record of ability to solve exceptionally complex problems (e.g. math and programming competitions or developing novel algorithms)
- Exceptional hacking skills: ability to quickly prototype and iterate on complex systems.
- Quick learner with strong analytical and coding skills.
- Willingness to learn multiple tools and codebases.
- High motivation: a passion for working on real problems, a determination to overcome obstacles, and the ability to work on any task (including less exciting ones) to get the job done.
Note: In the event your application is successful and an offer of employment is made to you, any offer of employment will be conditional on the results of a background check, performed by a third party acting on our behalf.
