The Emergency Call Handling organization is responsible for SaaS solutions that provide telecommunicators and supervisors intelligence, flexibility and mobility to help save lives. Trusted by thousands, answering over 65% of all 9-1-1 calls in the US, our call handling software offers PSAPs proven technology that increases productivity and continually strengthens how our customers coordinate response, and exchange life-saving information.The solutions we create apply exciting technologies such as geospatial visualization and analytics, high throughput communications, artificial intelligence, and numerous integrations with partner systems. To fulfill this mission, the Emergency Call Handling Product Management team orchestrates the full product lifecycle, from product definition, roadmap planning, defining required software development outcomes, product launch, and continuing innovation.
Job Description
Motorola’s Emergency Call Handling organization is seeking a passionate Product Owner to manage a backlog of 9-1-1 related product areas.

The selected candidate will be responsible for the ownership and managing of the backlog for their assigned product area, contribute to the product roadmap, and understand customer and market needs for the Emergency Call Handling products.
The product owner works in partnership with the product manager and relies on their knowledge and background to define features and backlog items with clear acceptance criteria, engage with assigned Engineering teams, and refine the backlog. The ability to deeply understand technical architecture, define engineering behind features, and translate high-level customer functional requirements into technical for development is a crucial skill. In addition, the ability to describe the impact of technical requirements on customers, non-technical sales, and support resources is a must.
This position will be responsible for filling an agile product owner role for a new Emergency Call Handling product. In this role, the product owner champions the needs of the user, customer, and other stakeholders throughout the development process to ensure that what is delivered meets the goals, objectives, and desired outcomes of the project. To be successful, one must manage multiple projects simultaneously, at various stages of their development, from idea to completed feature.
Responsibilities
Develop product requirements and contribute to the product roadmap that drives the company’s vision while ensuring the customer’s needs and pain-points are a priority
Responsible for building, editing, and maintaining the product area and team backlog, including features, user stories, defects, and research spikes
Transform technical necessities (like network connectivity, deployment modalities, platform’s operational excellence) into value-driven initiatives
Review and prioritize the backlog as part of the preparatory work for release and sprint planning, including coordination of dependencies with other POs
Involved in release planning, reviewing vision, and content presentations to assigned engineering team(s)
Collaborate with the team to detail user stories with acceptance criteria
Maintain the proper flow of features, user stories, and acceptance criteria in the backlog
Agree on accepted story completion, including validating that the story meets acceptance criteria and that it complies with the Definition of Done (DoD)
Understand the scope of needed research spikes and collaborate with Engineering to assist with decision-making and sequencing of the critical technological infrastructures
Negotiate with other product managers and your respective engineering teams to prioritize the work that maximizes customer value. We win together

Basic Requirements
Bachelor's Degree
3+ years of progressive experience in product ownership, product planning, product management, business analysis, or engineering

Firm understanding of software design, user interaction, and user interface design

Understands constraints and opportunities of Cloud, On-Premise and Hybrid deployment strategies
Understands the Core Networking Principles (TCP/IP, DNS, and HTTP/S protocols, network latency, bandwidth, and QoS)
Demonstrated experience defining product requirements related to network security, connectivity, and traffic management
Align with the enhanced focus on prioritizing and developing important aspects of mission-critical products, such as availability, reliability, and stability
Strong ability to take complex user requirements and distill them into a format that is intuitive and clear to developers as well as non-technical staff
Ability to research and analyze project requirements from various stakeholders
Build consensus among stakeholders
Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team spread across multiple continents in a fast-moving environment
Ability to multi-task among various assignments
Agile, Scrum, Kanban experience
Experience utilizing product and project management tools such as Aha!, Jira, and DevOps is a plus
Above and Beyond:
Background in 9-1-1 operations, Computer Aided Dispatch or related public safety fields
Background in software development for 9-1-1 or similar environments, especially high-volume call taking, response dispatch, and situational awareness.
