The role of the Program Management Team (PgM) is to shape and accelerate the delivery of GDM’s highest priorities. This position is part of a dedicated PgM team responsible for partnering with People & Culture (P&C) at Google DeepMind and therefore will focus on leading programs with a high element of organisational change or people involvement, impacting how the org operates and how people work.
We continually pursue sustainable ways to optimize our work, working in partnership with P&C to cultivate an environment where people can be both highly collaborative and deeply creative, making responsible and groundbreaking research progress at pace.
We build positive relationships with teams, bringing clarity to ambiguity and providing stability during change. We provide expertise in various program management techniques to structure abstract and complex operational projects across the business. We use our coaching skills to support and enable people and teams to do their best work together. We continually deepen our domain knowledge, working alongside researchers and engineers to ensure all our work is advancing towards our mission!
The Role
The P&C Project Management team leads and delivers large, strategic programs with a people focus. Collaborating closely with all our people functions, P&C Programs has a unique central viewpoint of the entire portfolio with its core mission to enable Google DeepMind to grow, thrive and accelerate towards the mission in the most effective way possible!
In this role you will work on a variety of high priority, company-wide programs and initiatives to scope and deliver against critical and continually evolving deliverables and set programs up for long term success. Working closely with partners across People and Culture, you'll build direction and structure, craft creative solutions and simplify complexity. The role will entail leading and delivering multiple critical projects within our 2025 Portfolio, with a focus on partnering COEs on topics such as leadership development, cyclical tool and systems optimisation & org-responsible programs.
Previous project management experience, outstanding judgment and communication skills, a passion for constant learning, and an innovative, collaborative approach to problem solving are all prerequisites for this position. The team is situated primarily in London and Mountain View, with collaborators across the globe.
Key responsibilities:
- Independently scope, plan & deliver programs end-to-end for People & Culture Portfolio, as well as market-responsive programs
- Co-develop program direction, priorities, goals, outcomes & success metrics with Leadership, continually bringing focus back to agreed priorities and OKRs
- Enable the effective collaboration of cross-functional teams on People related initiatives, pulling in the correct cross-functional experts at the right time
- Optimise program team design & efficient ways of working, managing stakeholders & bridging cross-program dependencies and collaboration opportunities
- Proactively identify and manage risks, dependencies and decisions. Actively seek solutions and implement mitigation strategies
- Apply expertise in program management methodologies, tools, and relevant domain knowledge to drive program success
- Apply expertise in change management, building a culture that role-models GDMs values; AGI-first, Responsible, Pioneering & Intentional
- Define metrics and achievements to accelerate delivery
About You
In order to set you up for success as a P&C Project Manager at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:
- Extensive knowledge and expertise in program management. A track record of managing large scale, time-bound programs, driving end-to-end delivery and surfacing program insights to influence strategic direction
- Extensive experience partnering with senior leadership, bringing straightforward solutions to complex challenges. Ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships, fostering collaboration and trust
- Experience balancing reactive and proactive activities, keeping teams plugged into evolving leadership direction and supporting re-prioritisation accordingly
- Proven skill to navigate through ambiguity, helping shape program direction whilst translating into clear program plans and roadmaps
- Proven ability to manage and deliver employee-focused programs from start to finish, leveraging change management principles to enhance overall employee experience and engagement
- Experience supporting teams in a fast-paced environment, adapting plans and strategies as project conditions change
In addition, the following would be an advantage:
- Experience project managing large-scale events within the development space, working with senior leadership, P&C and events to translate strategy into clear program plans, enabling accelerated delivery
- Lead or program managed in the implementation of HR systems at scale, ensuring smooth transitions and user adoption
- Experience working with cross-functional teams to delivery people activities related to acquisitions, mergers, and employee transfers/integrations, ensuring compliance and a positive employee experience
- Naturally curious and enjoy working across a large range of different subjects with ease, quickly gaining the knowledge you need to be effective
