About the Team

The Security Data Science team is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to spearhead the development and deployment of advanced security solutions. This role necessitates expertise in leveraging big data and machine learning to create sophisticated analytics and threat detection methodologies, with a strategic emphasis on real-time capabilities for mitigating platform customer security risks. Serving as a senior Individual Contributor, the incumbent will integrate deep technical data science/engineering skills with technical leadership, directing team endeavors within an Agile framework to ensure the effective execution and delivery of security defense products while upholding best practices and providing technical mentorship.

What you will be doing:

  • Developing and Deploying Real-time Security Defense Products: Leading advanced technical research and constructing innovative real-time threat detection and analysis techniques, overseeing the comprehensive lifecycle of AI-driven solutions from conception to production and monitoring, collaborating with threat experts to address evolving attack vectors, assuming ownership of technical domains, and delivering requisite research and features to ensure solution reliability, performance, and scalability.

  • Enhancing Machine Learning Infrastructure and Operational Reliability: Furnishing detailed requirements to Machine Learning Infrastructure teams for the development of a developer-centric and cost-optimized infrastructure that supports real-time processing and large-scale analytics, engaging in collaborative efforts with Machine Learning Infrastructure and AI Platform teams to guarantee high service availability and operational efficiency, resolving data reliability and quality issues within data pipelines, and employing expertise in big data technologies (Spark, Flink, Kafka) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) to facilitate data processing and service performance.

  • Direct and oversee the implementation of optimal methodologies and accelerate progress by exemplifying the role of a proficient hybrid people leader and data scientist. Serve as the technical authority for the team. Actively engage in all phases of the Agile methodology, directing the team accordingly. Employ contemporary technologies and data science best practices. Provide expert technical mentorship to team members. Develop and advocate for engineering best practices and standards for the team. Foster advancements in technical domains and effectively manage the backlog. Spearhead cross-functional initiatives.


What you should have:

  • At least seven years of professional experience in data science and software engineering, specifically applying data science methodologies to practical challenges.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in machine learning and data mining techniques.

  • Proven experience in formulating applied-research projects and contributing to their successful implementation in production environments.

  • Competence in utilizing big data analytics tools and distributed systems, such as Apache Spark, Flink, and Kafka.

  • Strong programming capabilities in languages including Python, Java, Scala, or Golang.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

  • Experience in providing technical guidance and mentorship.

  • Demonstrated leadership in technical aspects of team initiatives within Agile development frameworks.

Nice to have:

  • Experienced in applying big data techniques for security, including anomaly detection and threat analysis.

  • Possesses strong knowledge of security fundamentals, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and building/operating large-scale PaaS/IaaS systems.

  • Proven ability to address data reliability and collaborate with security teams to improve analysis and incident response, including experience with SOAR platforms.

  • Broad experience across NLP, ML, and Generative AI capabilities.

  • Exposure to fine tuning LLMs.

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $184,000 to $253,000.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $200,800 to $276,100.

Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
