Job Description Summary:

As Data Scientist, Model Risk Management, you’ll have a key role to ensure that AI applications and models used across the company are conceptually sound, accurate, robust, and properly monitored. • Model Risk Management team oversees and proactively challenges our AI and model risk management, ensuring regulatory compliance, strengthening decision-making, and safeguarding the company from financial and reputational damage.

You will make an impact by:

  • Protecting PayPal’s financial health and reputation by ensuring models are accurate and reliable under most scenarios.
  • Ensuring PayPal's models comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Exploring and creating cutting-edge agentic AI technologies to automate processes and drive efficiency.

In your day-to-day role you will:

  • Provide support to the team lead in managing oversight of high-impact AI applications and models deployed across diverse business areas, such as fraud detection, credit underwriting, and marketing.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative model validation in accordance with the Model Risk Management Policy to evaluate and mitigate model risk concerns.
  • Collaborate with business units and model developers to remediate model issues and provide subject-matter expert opinion on model improvements.
  • Perform model and AI risk governance related activities in line with enterprise risk framework, to ensure PayPal’s AI applications are compliant with ever evolving regulatory expectation.
  • Research the agentic AI field to help PayPal improve its risk detection and mitigation processes.

You will bring:

  • An advanced degree in a quantitative field, such as statistics, mathematics, computer science or engineering, is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical and machine learning models (e.g., logistic regression, time series analysis, random forests, SVMs, XGBoost, CNNs/RNNs, LLM).
  • Strong proficiency in programming and big data technologies, including Scikit-learn (Python), TensorFlow, Hadoop, Spark, SQL, and similar frameworks.
  • Relevant Modeling experience in credit scoring, fraud detection, financial forecasting, or marketing analytics obtained either in academic or financial industry is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in both independent tasks and collaborative team settings.
  • Effective communication skills for fostering positive relationships with stakeholders.
