We’re seeking a Cloud Security Engineer to join our cybersecurity team and help secure our rapidly growing cloud infrastructure. The position is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing security controls across multi-cloud environments to enhance Tempus’ cloud security posture. This role requires hands-on engineering skills, strong collaboration with DevOps and Cloud teams, and a deep understanding of cloud-native security practices.
Main Duties:
Monitor for security misconfigurations, threats, and vulnerabilities; support DevOps teams with remediation efforts
Conduct threat modeling, risk assessments, and incident response for cloud-native services
Build and maintain cloud security tooling (e.g., CSPM)
Create scripts to achieve a high level of automation
Define and enforce security policies and guardrails using tools like Terraform; provide guidance and security best practices to engineering teams
Conduct POCs, evaluate security tools, services, and approaches to improve cloud security posture while fostering valuable vendor relationships
Configure and create custom monitoring & alerting functions in the cloud
Collaborate with Leadership in developing policies and standards for Containerization, Infrastructure as Code, Cloud configurations, Cloud Network Security, and Compute workloads
Qualifications:
3+ Years of overall IT Experience with a major emphasis on Information Security
3+ Years of experience building and integrating systems within cloud providers
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong knowledge of GCP and AWS
Proficiency in using APIs with automation to complete tasks
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills and attention to detail
Understanding of containerization technologies
Experience with log analysis software and techniques
Experience working with Jira
Knowledge of cyber security frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST 800-53, CIS Controls)
Nice to Have's:
Strong knowledge of Azure
AWS/Azure/GCP certifications

Illinois Pay Range: $100,000 - $150,000
The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from Illinois and may vary for other locations (California, Colorado, New York). Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
