Role Overview  

As the Director of Data Science, you will play a pivotal role in shaping Coupang's Taiwan product strategy by leveraging the power of data sciences. You will lead a team of talented business analysts and data scientists working closely with the Catalogue, Retail, Product, and Engineering teams. Your primary objectives will be to build a world-class, data-driven e-commerce product experience for our customers and to define and execute the overarching data strategy for Coupang's international markets. This role will drive the development of advanced analytics, machine learning models, and data-driven strategies to optimize customer experience, personalization, product discovery, and operational efficiency.

   

What You Will Do  

• Strategic Leadership:
  • Define and execute the data science roadmap aligned with business goals.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and business teams to integrate data science into product development and decision-making.
• Model Development & Deployment:
  • Oversee the design and deployment of models for recommendation systems, dynamic pricing, customer segmentation, and demand forecasting.
  • Ensure scalability, performance, and reliability of data science solutions in production.

• Data Strategy & Governance:
  • Collaborate with data engineering to ensure robust data pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Promote best practices in data quality, governance, and ethical AI.
• Business Impact:
  • Translate complex data insights into actionable strategies that drive measurable business outcomes.
  • Present findings and recommendations to executive leadership.
• Team Management:
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of data scientists amd business analysts.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous learning.

Basic Qualifications  

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in data science, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Proven experience in e-commerce, retail, or digital product platforms.
• Expertise in R, Python, SQL, Spark, and ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, Scikit-learn).
• Strong understanding of recommendation systems, A/B testing, and customer analytics.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
