About the Role

Product Designers play a critical role in shaping the user experience and overall success of complex design projects with high levels of ambiguity. They combine creative vision with strategic thinking to deliver impactful solutions that meet user needs and business objectives. They're responsible for the end-to-end design process, from initial research and ideation through prototyping, user validation, and final implementation. They are mentored by lead designers and in turn, may mentor Product Designers and Associate Product Designers.

Responsibilities:

Strategic thinking

  • Definition of problem statement. Identifies problem areas in highly complex projects, taking into consideration future use and product evolution.
  • Vision. Influence product vision and strategy by using deep business and user understanding, design principles, and best practices.
  • Insights-driven approach. Frequently implements user testing or gathers evidence to validate ideas.
  • Forward thinking. Suggest and drive innovative solutions to increase user satisfaction and business value.

Delivery

  • Navigates ambiguity in projects. Solves complex tasks independently, using design tools and user-centered methods, with an understanding of the product life cycle.
  • Decision-making. Produce design deliverables that are shaped based on effective concepts, with design decisions considering useful sources, constraints, and technology to provide a strong and holistic design rationale.
  • Quality of delivery. Produce high-quality design work and design specs independently, demonstrating strong attention to detail and meeting quality standards. 
  • Influence Delivery Quality. Establish standards for design consistency and product implementation.
  • Task management. Owns the design work and balances project scope, business goals, and user expectations to meet deadlines.

Team & client collaboration

  • Continuous improvement advocacy. Draw from industry references or proven knowledge to inform established workflows within cross-functional teams and the Foundry. Collaborate with leadership roles to set best practices.
  • Facilitation. Lead workshops and brainstorming sessions to foster collaboration.
  • Client engagement. Become a trusted source for clients by leveraging expertise, taking ownership of actions, and handling challenges with emotional intelligence.
  • Communication. Use storytelling to convey complex ideas and solutions, making them relatable even to non-experts.
  • Teamwork across roles. Be a collaborative teammate, working efficiently within cross-functional teams to integrate ideas.
  • Foundry domain collaboration. Lead internal projects to refine best practices and foster shared knowledge and growth.

Growth & mentorship

  • Thought Leadership. Masters the skill of shaping convincing arguments, presenting a strong viewpoint with expertise. This helps in fostering innovation and influencing established practices within the team.
  • Mentorship. Contribute to the growth of mid-level designers by providing clear and actionable feedback.

About You

The essentials:

A specific professional degree is not required for this position. However, degrees related to UX Design, Interaction Design, or Human Computer Interaction are a plus.

  • 8+ years of product design experience, with a strong portfolio showcasing successful projects.
  • Deep understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and solve complex design problems.
  • A passion for creating intuitive and engaging user experiences.
  • Experience mentoring or leading other designers is a plus.

What We Offer

Monks has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what Monks may pay for the position at the time of posting. Monks may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on job-related factors, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.

Salary Range
$105,000$130,000 CAD
