Job Description

Snapshot

At Google DeepMind, we are building the future of artificial intelligence, and safeguarding our research, people, and products is a foundational mission. The Security & Privacy (S&P) organization enables the entire company to pursue its ambitious goals responsibly.

About Us

Artificial Intelligence could be one of humanity’s most useful inventions. At Google DeepMind, we’re a team of scientists, engineers, machine learning experts and more, working together to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority.

The Role

As the Intelligence Lead (FTC) working in Security & Risk Operations within S&P, you’ll be part of a team that manages security risks to GDM’s people, data and operations. In this role, you’ll work in collaboration with stakeholders across S&P, Responsibility, Robotics, Frontier Safety & Governance, and other Alphabet security teams, responding to the evolving needs of the business.

Key responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities and provide strategic guidance to research or product teams, delivering tactical and strategic intelligence on threats, risks and opportunities related to the future of AI.
  • Define the long-term strategy for Intelligence at Google DeepMind and ensure that the plans, priorities, and resources are integrated into a broader vision to execute the strategy.
  • Manage the delivery of timely intelligence to support internal investigations.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior leaders across GDM and Google, instilling high levels of trust across the organisation and providing recommendations on decisions where appropriate.
  • Manage relationships with representatives from the public sector and industry peers to share information or coordinate intelligence and investigative strategies.
  • Employ analytic methods to determine changes in adversary capabilities, motivations, and intent while providing insights and analysis to reduce risk before exposure to threats occur, addressing and identifying the highest complexity and/or undefined/unknown issues.
  • Manage crises and deliver threat assessment services by collecting, evaluating, and disseminating accurate and timely intelligence information to appropriate stakeholders.

About You

In order to set you up for success as an Intelligence Lead at DeepMind,  we look for the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g. international affairs, political science, security studies, history, intelligence) or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in analytical disciplines, such as due diligence, risk intelligence, threat analysis, business intelligence/analysis, competitive/market intelligence/analysis, crisis management, or business continuity.
  • Ability to thrive in rapidly evolving research environments by adeptly adjusting plans as conditions change, while consistently driving process improvements and tooling efficiencies to streamline execution.
  • Very strong executive communication skills; you are able to synthesize complex details into accessible and precise insights.
  • Awareness of the external AI environment.
  • Experience working with third-party providers, vendor or contractor teams, and managing budgets, purchase orders and invoices.
  • Ability to lead through influence, and balance coaching and directing,  especially during periods of rapid change, providing support and motivation to team members without micromanaging.

In addition, the following would be an advantage:

  • Master’s degree in a related field (e.g. international affairs, political science, security studies, history, intelligence)
  • Relevant government security clearance
  • Experience working with emerging technologies and the novel security issues they present
  • Knowledge of AI/ML fundamentals (training, inference, fine-tuning)
