About the Team

The Catalog Data Science Team at Walmart Global Tech is focused on using the latest research in generative AI (GenAI), artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), statistics, deep learning, computer vision and optimization to implement solutions that ensure Walmart’s product catalog is accurate, complete, and optimized for customer experience. Our team tackles complex data science and ML engineering challenges related to product classification, attribute extraction, trust & safety, and catalog optimization, empowering next-generation retail use cases.

The Data Science and ML Engineering community at Walmart Global Tech is active in most of the Hack events, utilizing the petabytes of data at our disposal, to build some of the coolest ideas. All the work we do at Walmart Global Tech will eventually benefit our operations & our associates, helping Customers Save Money to Live Better.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Manager - Data Science, you’ll have the opportunity to

• Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of data scientists and ML engineers. Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture while providing guidance and support for professional growth.

• Drive data science initiatives aligned with Walmart's business goals. Collaborate with senior management to identify opportunities where data science can drive value and optimize customer experiences.

• Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of complex data science projects, including scoping, planning, execution, and delivery. Ensure timely completion of projects within budget while maintaining quality standards.

• Design, build, and deploy machine learning models to solve business problems. Utilize technologies like generative AI, deep learning, computer vision, and statistical modeling.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure robust data pipelines and infrastructure. Establish processes for data integration, quality assurance, governance, and compliance.

• Partner with cross-functional teams including product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver impactful solutions. Communicate insights effectively to drive decision-making.

• Stay updated on the latest advancements in AI/ML technologies. Drive innovation by experimenting with new methodologies and tools to enhance Walmart’s product catalog capabilities.

• Represent Walmart Global Tech in external forums by publishing research findings or presenting at conferences. Promote a culture of learning within the team by sharing best practices and insights.

• Adhere to Walmart’s policies, procedures, mission, values, standards of ethics and integrity

• Adopt to Walmart’s quality standards, develop/recommend process standards and best practices across the retail industry

What you'll bring:

• PhD with > 7 years of relevant experience / Master’s degree with > 10 years of experience/ 4-year bachelor’s degree with > 12 years of experience. Educational qualifications should be preferably in Computer Science or a strongly quantitative discipline.

• Proven track record of leading data science teams, including hiring, coaching, and fostering a collaborative culture. Experience managing hybrid or remote teams is valuable.

• Strategic planning to align data initiatives with organizational goals, prioritizing high-impact projects while managing resources and budgets.

• Experience partnering with product, engineering, and analytics teams to integrate ML solutions into business workflows.

• Ability to translate technical insights into actionable business strategies for executives and non-technical stakeholders. Strong storytelling with tools like Tableau or Power BI.

• Tackle ambiguous business challenges with innovative, data-driven solutions.

• Strong communication skills with inclination to high ownership and commitment

Good to haves:

•  Experience with Ecommerce domain.
