The opportunity:

We are looking for a motivated Associate Data Science Engineer who is eager to develop strong technical skills and grow within modern data and engineering practices. This role is designed for someone at an early stage of their career who wants to work hands-on with data-driven solutions while learning from experienced engineers and data scientists.

In this position, you will support the development of data processing pipelines, contribute to analytical and machine learning solutions, and collaborate closely with developers and data scientists. You will gain practical experience with Python, object-oriented programming, containerized environments (e.g. Docker), and modern engineering and testing practices.

Beyond technical skills, we are looking for someone who is open, communicative, and willing to learn, as collaboration and knowledge sharing are key aspects of this role.

Our R&D engineers, developers, QA engineers and scientists develop breakthrough technologies that change the way the world works, and how industries do business. We constantly push the limits of convention, while retaining our focus on delivering quality products and solutions to our customers.

You will join the Analytics Scrum Team, which develops a dedicated platform for analytical algorithms integrated with web applications used to monitor HVDC stations. Our solutions enable real-time data analysis, predictive maintenance, and visualization of key metrics to ensure the reliability and efficiency of HVDC systems.

High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) is a key enabler for a carbon-neutral energy system. For over 70 years, Hitachi Energy has delivered numerous technical innovations in this field and delivered many HVDC projects. Today and in the future, solutions like HVDC, play an essential role in integrating renewable energy, decarbonizing power systems, and enhancing grid resilience and flexibility.

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Support statistical analysis, building of mathematical models, and data visualizations to uncover insights related to condition monitoring, diagnostics, and forecasting.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of software solutions within our digital offering under guidance of more experienced team members.

  •   Learn to understand business and domain-specific technical requirements to help define the scope of data analysis and identify opportunities for further investigation.

  • Collaborate with R&D engineers, developers QA engineers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to understand data needs and help deliver actionable insights.

  •   Share knowledge, progress, and learnings openly with the team

  • Continuously develop your skills by learning new data analysis techniques, tools, and best practices.

Your Background

  • Professional experience in a relevant field (including internships, thesis projects, or graduate work)

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or in related field.

  • Foundation in data science, including exposure to data processing, feature engineering, and model development.

  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art machine learning concepts and analytical methods.

  • Programming skills in data science languages (i.e Python, Matlab), with willingness to further develop these skills.

  • Fluent in English, good communication skills and ability to explain results and ideas clearly.
