Position Summary...
What you'll do...
Who we are
The International Search team powers query understanding, relevance ranking, and search result optimization across multiple touchpoints within the Walmart International market' app and website. We are a global team dedicated to helping millions of customers worldwide find the right products efficiently and build trusted partnerships.
We work with state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) models to better understand customer queries and retrieve the most relevant products. Utilizing the latest advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), we incorporate vast world knowledge and combine it with Walmart data to provide a more intuitive and effective search experience for our customers.
What we do
At International Search, we focus on building state-of-the-art search relevance models, query rewriting systems, and semantic search capabilities.
To power all these initiatives, we:
Developed a state-of-the-art search ranking system to capture both lexical and semantic relevance. We utilize the latest advancements in GenAI and the Agentic Framework to further enhance our search results and incorporate world knowledge into our systems.
Embrace omni-channel strategies, just like our customers. We analyze both their offline and online behavior to better understand their intent and personalize their search experience.
Prioritize our customers through continuous research and development efforts. We aim to better represent customer intent via Query Embeddings, Transformers, and near-real-time, in-session query understanding.
What You'll Do
Stay up-to-date with the latest machine learning and deep learning algorithms (Transformers, Multi-modal models) that power Search and Query Understanding at Walmart.
Utilize pre-trained embedding models such as T5, CLIP, BERT, and RoBERTa for query rewriting, intent classification, and semantic search.
Work with big data technologies like Hive, Spark, GCP, VertexAI, and MapReduce to build scalable algorithms.
Use tools like Java, Python, Bash, Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, XGBoost, and NLTK to develop and deploy ML models.
Visualize insights using Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, and GGplot.
Apply rigorous model testing and validation techniques (e.g., F1, ROC, RMSE).
Collaborate in agile scrum teams and follow best practices in software development (e.g., code reviews, CI/CD).
Innovate new ML/AI techniques when existing methods fall short.
Leverage LLMs and AI-assisted coding tools like Copilot to rapidly prototype and iterate.
What You'll Bring
MS/PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, or related fields with 2–4 years of experience.
Strong background in NLP, Search Science, Query Understanding, and ML/DL.
Proficiency in Python, SQL, PySpark, and cloud-based big data systems.
Experience leading ML projects and mentoring junior data scientists.
Publications or patents in relevant fields are a plus.
Familiarity with embedding models like T5, CLIP, BERT, and RoBERTa.
Strong data visualization and model evaluation skills
