As the Head of Trusted Computing and Cryptography, you will play a crucial role in building the infrastructure that enables and protects OpenAI’s research and products. Leveraging your depth of experience in these areas, you will manage the collaboration between Security, cross-functional partners, and external partners to develop trusted computing bases for secure AI infrastructure. This includes innovating on datacenter design, emerging capabilities such as confidential computing, and working on integrating novel cryptographic technologies with our products and frontier models. This role requires a proactive and resilient team player who can work cross-functionally and help build a cohesive security team.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:
Build a small and elite team of cryptographers and trusted computing experts.
Develop infrastructure security primitives including remote attestation, secure boot, and verified boot to protect provide attestation of OpenAI’s AI infrastructure.
Innovate on new features and capabilities to protect AI technology, including confidential computing for GPUs.
Regularly evaluate security tools and frameworks, identifying areas for improvement or upgrades.
Collaborate with internal partners across the organization and external partners across the software and hardware supply chain to design, develop, and implement security controls that advance AI security.
Experiment with new tools and technologies to expand the effectiveness of security measures implemented within the company and effectiveness, ensuring robustness and scalability of security solutions.
You might thrive in this role if you:
Expertise in developing secure software solutions and infrastructure components.
Expertise with applied cryptography, hardware/low-level security, and datacenter engineering.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Golang, C/C++, or similar,
Research experience at the frontiers of trusted computing and applied cryptography is preferred.
Experience with security practices such as threat models, risk assessment, and security protocols.
Are an extreme self-starter who wants to get your hands dirty and lead from the front.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
