At BJAK, we believe exceptional products are built by exceptional people. As we expand in Japan, we’re looking for a Talent Acquisition Lead (Japan) to spearhead our hiring efforts on the ground. You’ll take ownership of full-cycle recruitment across critical roles - from engineering and product to business and operations - helping us build a world-class team in one of Asia’s most strategic markets.

This is an on-site role based in Japan, where you’ll work closely with both local leaders and our headquarters in Malaysia. You’ll be responsible for sourcing and securing mission-aligned talent who share our commitment to transforming access to financial services across Asia.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead end-to-end recruitment for Japan-based roles, from job brief to final offer

  • Own hiring across diverse functions, with a focus on engineering, product, and operations

  • Source actively through local and international platforms (e.g., LinkedIn Japan, BizReach, Wantedly, job fairs, tech communities, university networks)

  • Partner with hiring managers to understand role needs, refine hiring strategies, and guide the full recruitment process

  • Conduct structured interviews to assess both skills and cultural fit

  • Deliver clear, data-informed feedback to candidates and hiring teams

  • Ensure an excellent candidate experience characterized by speed, clarity, and respect

  • Maintain hiring data and pipelines through an ATS, while reporting on funnel health and hiring metrics

  • Share insights on Japan’s talent market to inform hiring and growth strategies

You’ll Excel in This Role If You…

  • Have a strong eye for identifying high-potential candidates, even from unconventional backgrounds

  • Know how to balance speed and quality in a high-expectation environment

  • Are fluent in Japanese and English, both spoken and written

  • Understand local hiring norms - such as counteroffer trends, job transitions, and candidate hesitation around startups

  • Are energized by owning results and making key hiring decisions on the ground

  • Are comfortable guiding hiring managers, even pushing back when needed to maintain quality

Requirements

  • 4+ years of end-to-end recruiting experience in Japan, preferably in tech or high-growth companies

  • Proven success hiring across multiple job families and seniority levels

  • Familiarity with Japan’s job platforms (e.g., BizReach, Wantedly, LinkedIn, HelloWork) and university channels

  • Experience with ATS systems and recruitment operations

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Able to work on-site in Japan and collaborate across borders

  • Fluent in Japanese and English (mandatory)

Nice to Have

  • Experience hiring for software engineers, product managers, or startup leadership roles

  • Knowledge of employer branding or recruitment marketing in the Japanese context

  • Prior exposure to regional hiring across Asia

  • Background in building scalable processes in a lean recruiting environment

  • Familiarity with structured interviews and assessment methods
