The role
As a Vehicle Software Integration Engineer, you will play a key role in the hands-on software bring-up of new vehicle programs, helping turn them into stable, reliable robot systems. Alongside integration activities, you’ll design and deliver improvements to vehicle-facing software components and frameworks that make future integrations faster, more predictable, and less bespoke. This is a highly technical engineering role within our Robot Software group, where your work directly enables safe, scalable deployment across multiple vehicle programs
Key responsibilities:
- Contribute to the software bring-up of new vehicle programs, supporting bench, HIL, and on-vehicle integration activities, including hands-on work at international test locations.
- Design, develop, and maintain vehicle-facing software components and shared frameworks that improve reliability, abstraction, and reuse across vehicle programs.
- Improve the stability of early-stage vehicles by diagnosing integration issues, implementing fixes where appropriate, and driving issues through to resolution with relevant teams.
- Identify and deliver architectural improvements that reduce bespoke changes and make future vehicle integrations faster and more predictable.
- Build and maintain tooling, diagnostics, and metrics to monitor robot software performance and enable continuous reliability improvements.
- Produce clear documentation and runbooks to support knowledge transfer and long-term maintainability.
- Collaborate closely with hardware, safety, controls, calibration, and reliability teams to ensure smooth and scalable vehicle software integration.
About you
In order to set you up for success as a Software Integration Engineer at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.
Essential
- Strong software development experience in C++, Python, and/or Rust, with a track record of delivering production-quality systems.
- Experience developing and debugging software on Linux-based robotic or automotive platforms, including multi-process or distributed systems.
- Experience with ROS2 or similar robotics middleware, including node development, message interfaces, and system integration.
- Hands-on experience integrating software with vehicle or embedded hardware, including debugging using logs, telemetry, and on-target testing.
- Practical experience working with vehicle sensors, including topics such as calibration, synchronisation, and data validation.
- Experience working with automotive-grade high-performance compute platforms (e.g., NVIDIA DRIVE, Qualcomm Snapdragon Ride, or similar embedded SoCs).
- Strong systems-level debugging skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex integration issues across software and hardware boundaries.
- Familiarity with vehicle communication systems (e.g. CAN, Automotive Ethernet) and associated debugging tools.
Desirable
- Experience with drive-by-wire systems or other safety-critical control interfaces.
- Familiarity with state-of-the-art automotive bus analyzing tools (Vector CANoe/ CANalyzer/ Kvaser)
- Experience building or evolving shared frameworks, libraries, or internal platforms used by multiple teams.
- Experience improving system architecture to reduce technical debt and increase reuse across projects.
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or simulation environments for integration and validation.
- Exposure to functional safety concepts or development within safety-critical systems.
- Experience writing clear technical documentation, integration guides, or operational runbooks.
- Experience contributing to observability, logging, or system metrics for reliability and performance monitoring.
