The role

The Robot Software team is responsible for the software that runs on our internal fleet of vehicles to enable autonomous driving and collect data for training new driving models. And as a member of the AV stack team, you will own and deliver on-vehicle software including the application software framework & runtime, vehicle health monitor, data logging, telematics, connectivity, and other critical functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own data logging on vehicle and offload services to ensure data is consistent, high quality, and quickly offloaded. Maximize data fidelity and minimize resource consumption.
  • Own the vehicle health framework enabling safe robot software on-road operation
  • Surface the best information for vehicle operators to quickly operate, understand, and debug any issues with the vehicle
  • Enable coordination and OTA of all system software components.
  • Configure, Operate, and Diagnose the connectivity and telematics functions onboard the vehicle as required for fleet operation
  • Build modular frameworks used by hundreds of developers — with the same bar for quality, performance, and maintainability as internal developer tools at top-tier tech companies.
  • Act as a technical point of contact for cross-functional stakeholders, clearly communicating trade-offs, timelines, and risk areas.
  • Work with C++, Rust, and Linux in a modern environment with CI/CD and telemetry at scale.

We understand that everyone has a unique set of skills and experiences and that not everyone will meet all of the requirements listed below. If you’re passionate about self-driving cars and think you have what it takes to make a positive impact on the world, we encourage you to apply.

About you

In order to set you up for success as a Software Engineer at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.

Essential

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++ and/or Rust for high-performance embedded Linux systems.
  • Debugging Skills: Ability to delve deep into performance issues, stack traces, core dumps, slow disk writes, high system load, memory bottlenecks, external device bottlenecks, and threading issues.
  • Linux Expertise: Familiarity with embedded Linux, build systems, and/or user space applications.
  • IPC Middleware Knowledge: Strong understanding of how to optimally use and configure IPC middleware for high data throughput robotics applications on frameworks such as ROS.
  • Experience developing software designed for continuous deployment and release, with a focus on reliability, stability, and ease of integration in fast-paced production environments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills and experience working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, including requirements gathering and software design
  • Experience with robotics, autonomous systems, or other real-world sensing applications
  • Knowledge of how distributed systems operate, either in cloud or robotics systems, and how to make these types of systems more scalable and performant.

Desirable

  • Linux Kernel Development: Experience with device driver implementation, kernel module programming, and/or debugging low-level system issues would be beneficial in this role.
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees are a plus.
