Software Engineer, Perception, Foundation Model Onboard Infrastructure

The Perception team at Waymo builds the system that "sees" the world around the self-driving car. We focus on building robust and scalable solutions using cutting-edge technologies to tackle real-world challenges in autonomous driving. With access to vast amounts of driving data collected from advanced sensor systems, our team delivers models and infrastructure that power Waymo's fleet of autonomous vehicles. In this hybrid role, you will report to the Technical Lead Manager of the Multimodal Semantics team.

You will:

• Design and implement systems to deploy deep learning models, including Vision Language Models (VLMs) and Large Language Models (LLMs), on Waymo vehicles
• Develop and enhance onboard deployment infrastructure to streamline the integration of new models and signals
• Optimize existing onboard systems to improve code clarity and scalability.
• Be part of the Waymo Perception foundational model team, and work closely with machine learning infrastructure and production to deploy innovative perception solutions

You have:

• BS/MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• 3+ years of C++ programming experience
• Software architecture and design skills
• Experience developing machine learning / deep learning models

We prefer:

• Experience with embedded / real-time systems such as robotics, self-driving or graphics/rendering
• Experience working with ML workloads and frameworks
• Appreciation for design and code aesthetics
