Job Description

About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the Role

We're building Claude into the AI that everyone uses at work. Not a demo, not a chatbot sidebar — a tool that professionals across industries rely on every day to do substantive work. We're looking for experienced software engineers to join the Enterprise & Verticals team, where we build the products that make that real.

This is a rare engineering role where you don't just build on top of a model — you shape the model itself. Every engineer on this team works directly with Anthropic's research organization, including post-training, to make Claude better at the specific tasks your products need to solve. Whether you're working on general enterprise tooling or a specific industry vertical, you'll identify capability gaps, collaborate with researchers on domain-specific improvements, and see those improvements ship in your products.

This team owns two complementary surfaces:

Enterprise AI Products. General-purpose features that make Claude useful for any knowledge worker — products like Cowork, plugins, skills, and the connective tissue that lets Claude operate effectively across workflows. A big part of this work is understanding why users aren't activating, what's blocking adoption, and building the capabilities that close those gaps. You'll work on the systems that make Claude a daily-use tool for enterprise customers across industries.

Vertical AI Products. Purpose-built experiences for specific industries where Claude can transform complex professional workflows. We're currently building for three verticals, with more to come:

  • Financial Services — from data retrieval and analysis to institutional-quality report generation, building AI experiences that meet the standards of the world's largest financial institutions.
  • Healthcare — from clinical documentation and prior authorization to care coordination and patient management, solving critical challenges for healthcare systems while ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Legal — from document review and contract analysis to regulatory compliance and matter management, building tools that handle the precision, confidentiality, and nuance that legal work demands.

Representative Projects

  • Build an Office add-in that lets Claude read, analyze, and generate content within Excel and Word — operating within the constraints of host application sandboxes and third-party platform APIs
  • Design the plugins and skills infrastructure that lets Claude learn new domain-specific capabilities — from financial modeling templates to clinical documentation workflows — and make them discoverable and composable for enterprise users
  • Build the customization and distribution layer to allow enterprise power users capture, refine, and share their enhanced workflows.
  • Develop a document generation pipeline that produces institutional-quality investment research reports, translating Claude's analytical capabilities into outputs that meet the formatting, sourcing, and compliance standards of a top-tier bank
  • Instrument and diagnose activation funnels to understand why enterprise users sign up but don't adopt Claude for daily work, then build the product changes that close those gaps
  • Design the context and memory architecture that lets multiple Claude agents working across different product surfaces — Cowork, chat, Office add-ins, vertical tools — share a unified understanding of a user's projects, preferences, and in-flight work so that nothing falls through the cracks as people move between tools
  • Identify high-toil workflows that enterprise users repeat daily — reformatting reports, reconciling data across systems, triaging inbound requests — and apply new model capabilities to automate or eliminate them, measuring the impact on time saved and user retention
  • Build hybrid workflow systems where Claude agents and people collaborate asynchronously on complex tasks — for example, an agent that drafts a first-pass contract review overnight, flags items that need human judgment, and routes those decisions back through a structured interface so the attorney can review and approve in minutes rather than hours
  • Collaborate with post-training researchers to improve Claude's performance on clinical documentation tasks, identifying specific failure modes in patient note summarization and helping design training data to address them

You May Be a Good Fit If You

  • Have strong full-stack engineering skills with experience building products in enterprise or B2B contexts
  • Care as much about whether users activate and get value as you do about the underlying systems — you're product-minded and user-oriented
  • Have shipped products that real customers depend on, and are comfortable working across the stack (frontend, backend, APIs, integrations) and navigating ambiguity in an early-stage product environment
  • Communicate effectively and can engage credibly with enterprise stakeholders — whether a portfolio manager, a general counsel, or a hospital CIO — and translate their needs into engineering work
  • Work effectively across functions in a fast-moving organization

Especially Valuable Experience

  • For Enterprise AI Products: Experience building developer tools, productivity applications, or platforms where adoption and activation are core challenges. Familiarity with skills, plugins, or extensibility systems.
  • For Office Agents: Experience building Office add-ins, browser extensions, or plugins that integrate with existing productivity software. Familiarity with the Office JavaScript API, VSTO, COM, or similar frameworks for manipulating spreadsheets, documents, or presentations programmatically.
  • For Financial Services: Experience with financial data providers, trading systems, or capital markets technology. Track record building systems that handle sensitive financial data, financial modeling, or document generation.
  • For Healthcare & Life Sciences: Experience with clinical workflows or products for health records and clinical documentation. Familiarity with healthcare compliance requirements (HIPAA, HL7/FHIR, etc.).
  • For Legal: Experience building legal technology products — document review, contract lifecycle management, compliance systems, or practice management platforms.

We're at the beginning of defining how AI transforms professional work, and we expect to expand into new verticals and product surfaces over time. If your experience doesn't map neatly to one of the categories above but you're excited about building the products that make Claude indispensable at work, we'd love to hear from you.

The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.

For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.

Annual Salary:
$320,000$485,000 USD

Logistics

Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Location-based hybrid policy:
Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed.  Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team.

Your safety matters to us. To protect yourself from potential scams, remember that Anthropic recruiters only contact you from @anthropic.com email addresses. How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

Come work with us!

Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
