We are seeking a highly motivated and capable Senior Engineer to further our Genomics AI initiatives. This person should have experience and interest in leading analysis and design of technical problems, mentoring & coaching emerging talent during this transformative time in Tech. This position requires experience with programming (full stack), relational data systems and algorithms development. Top candidates will also have experience crafting code while leveraging AI tooling and embedding agentic workflows in their product.

You've got several years of experience working on software development teams, and can support your team by leading technical analysis & design, evaluating tradeoffs, and establishing best practices
You are passionate about leveraging Generative AI and possess demonstrable experience embedding AI, LLM, or agentic workflows into products, and utilizing AI-based tools within your development processes
You love exploring hard problems and solving them in ways that scale well for the future, balancing delivery timelines, stakeholder needs, and technical realities
You understand the challenges and appreciate the rewards of a distributed architecture
You've worked in fast-paced, agile environments and helped keep projects on track, troubleshoot roadblocks, write documentation, and coordinate cross-team collaboration
You enjoy learning from and collaborating with a diverse, talented team and mentoring junior team members
You have a track record of diving into complex domains and leveraging your understanding to provide insightful input into the product development process
Bonus points for:
Experience with Docker, AWS, GCP
Experience in React, NodeJS, MySql
Experience in biotech, genomics, and precision medicine
Responsibilities:
Actively research, evaluate, and champion the adoption of Generative AI technologies and best practices within the team and across the organization
Define technical solutions or efficient operational processes that level up the team
Autonomously define and deliver technical roadmaps of larger projects, often involving cross-team dependencies
Lead the design and implementation of solutions that integrate AI, LLM, and agentic workflows to enhance product capabilities and operational efficiency
Actively keep customer needs in mind and leverage input from product stakeholders as available to determine the right technical solution to deliver customer value quickly
Gain a broader understanding of the business context and team goals to enable independent technical decisions in the face of open-ended requirements
Set audacious goals, take risks, and share lessons learned
Define technical roadmaps for complex projects and provide leadership for the people executing on those projects
Build relationships and drive coordination across teams and disciplines, helping get to positive outcomes
Give quality feedback on designs written by other members of the team, asking probing and insightful questions to solidify choices and surface erroneous assumptions
Roll our components and major features, while deprecating existing systems or features, reliably
Design clear success metrics and achieve those metrics consistently post-launch through the lifetime of the system or feature
Mentor team members on the effective use of AI tools and methodologies, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning in the AI space

CHI: $130,000-$190,000
The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from Illinois and may vary for other locations (California, Colorado, New York). Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
