This team is tackling one of Xero’s most ambitious initiatives yet - an early-stage product effort exploring new ways to reimagine how businesses manage their finances, powered by next-generation AI and automation. Details are still under wraps, but you’ll be part of a small, startup-like team building something entirely new within Xero.

The Opportunity

We’re building a new AI-native product engineering team for this ambitious project and are hiring across multiple senior engineering roles. We’re looking for senior product engineers who thrive in ambiguity, are energized by big challenges, and want to shape 0→1 products from the ground up.

You’ll join a lean, autonomous team with the freedom to experiment, iterate rapidly, and ship impactful experiences. We’re assembling a diverse group of engineers with complementary strengths - from full-stack developers to front-end and mobile specialists, to those experienced in integrating complex accounting systems.

This is not a typical engineering role - it’s a hands-on opportunity to blend deep technical expertise with product thinking. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and data scientists to co-create solutions that push the boundaries of what’s possible with AI.

What You'll Do

Build from 0→1: Design, develop, and deliver new product experiences in an emerging AI-driven product area.

Collaborate deeply: Partner with product, design, and data to explore user problems and prototype solutions quickly.

Embrace ambiguity: Define your own path in areas where requirements and technologies are still evolving.

Engineer for scale and quality: Write robust, high-quality, and maintainable software using modern technologies and engineering standards.

Leverage AI-native tools: Use AI-assisted development, prototyping, and testing workflows to increase velocity and creativity.

Shape the culture: Help build a high-trust, high-autonomy engineering culture modeled after modern startups.

Continuously learn: Stay on the cutting edge of software, AI, and product development practices - and share that knowledge with the team.

What You'll Bring

6+ years of software engineering experience, ideally in full-stack or product-engineering roles.

Experience building and scaling user-facing products, ideally from early concept to launch.

Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (e.g. TypeScript, Kotlin, Python, or C#, Golang) and comfort working across the stack.

Experience with React/Typescript, React Native, or similar frameworks is a plus.

Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern delivery practices (CI/CD, containers, automated testing).

Strong product sense - the ability to translate user needs and product goals into technical solutions.

Passion for AI tools and workflows - you use them to work smarter and faster.

Curiosity, autonomy, and bias for action - you don’t wait for direction to make progress.

Excellent collaboration and communication skills; ability to work in cross-functional, distributed teams.
