What a R&D Engineer (Applied AI & Simulations) does at HP:
- Develop and implement AI-enhanced simulation models to optimize mechanical and thermal hardware development/validation processes.
- Apply machine learning and data-driven techniques to predict performance outcomes and identify design improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate simulation insights into mechanical design workflows.
- Design and validate engineering solutions using simulation tools to reduce physical prototyping and accelerate development cycles.
- Analyze simulation results to provide actionable recommendations for design refinement and performance enhancement.
- Represent the simulation team in cross-disciplinary projects, contributing to strategic planning and technical decision-making.
- Continuously explore and adopt emerging AI technologies to improve simulation accuracy and speed.
Individuals who do well in this role at HP, usually possess:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines such as Civil, Marine, Aerospace Engineering, or Applied Mathematics.
- 2–6 years of experience in mechanical engineering, product development, or simulation-based R&D.
- Experience with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and simulation platforms (e.g., ANSYS, Altair Hyperworks).
- Familiarity with 3D CAD tools such as Creo Elements Direct Modeling or ProEngineer.
- Strong understanding of mechanics of materials, thermal dynamics, and data analytics.
- Proven ability to reduce test cycles through simulation and predictive modeling.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively present simulation findings and negotiate design options with technical teams.
