Principal Applied Scientist, Sponsored Products

The SP team's primary goals are to help shoppers discover new products they love, be the most efficient way for advertisers to meet their business objectives, and build a sustainable business that continuously innovates on behalf of customers. Our products and solutions are strategically important to enable our Retail and Marketplace businesses to drive long-term growth. Search Supply and Experiences, within Sponsored Products, develops cutting-edge AI solutions to improve shopper discovery experiences. Our efforts our focused on solving these large and ambiguous problem for both the Search page and more recent conversational-based shopping experience. To accomplish this, we are investing in large language models (LLM), multi-modal Generative AI models, and other related DL methods. We work collaboratively across other organizations and influence the design of experiences that improve the shopper experience on Amazon by making discovery easy and efficient.

We are looking for a passionate Principal Applied Scientist with expertise in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Information Retrieval, to invent and build scalable solutions for improving sponsored products experience in the context of Amazon Search.

A successful candidate will have a strong machine learning background and a desire to push the envelope in one or more of the above areas. The ideal candidate would also have hands-on experiences in building end-to-end Generative AI solutions (mainly with LLMs and multi-modal foundation models), enjoy operating in dynamic environments, be self-motivated to take on challenging high-ambiguity problems to deliver big customer impact.


Key job responsibilities
As a Principal Applied Scientist in the team, you will:

- Seek to understand in depth the Sponsored Products offering at Amazon and identify areas of opportunities to grow our business using AI solutions.

- Mentor and guide the applied scientists in our organization and hold us to a high standard of technical rigor and excellence in ML.

- Design and lead AI roadmaps and solutions aimed at helping our Amazon shoppers have a delightful shopping experience while creating long term value for our sellers.

- Work with our engineering partners and draw upon your experience to meet latency and other system constraints.

- Be an influencer, and drive the strategic and scientific vision in collaboration with partner teams.

- Identify untapped, high-risk technical and scientific directions, and devise new research directions that you will drive to completion and deliver.

- Be responsible for communicating our AI innovations to the broader internal & external scientific community.
