About the Team

Our team sits within the People & Purpose (P&P) organization and operates at the intersection of business, technology, and innovation. We partner closely with P&P functional teams, Workday-on-Workday (WoW) in Business Technology, Enterprise AI, and Workday Product to deliver scalable, people-centric solutions across the employee lifecycle. Acting as trusted advisors and technical project leaders, we translate complex business needs into enterprise-ready, scalable technology solutions—driving clarity, alignment, and impact from concept through launch and beyond.

About the Role

Seeking a strategic and seasoned leader to spearhead the development and execution of a comprehensive internal AI strategy and implementation roadmap specifically for our People & Purpose (Human Resources) function. The successful candidate will ensure that the application of AI in HR is strategically aligned with Workday's overarching Enterprise AI vision, product strategy and overarching goal to be the first and best users of Workday’s product.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Roadmap Development:

  • Understand and socialize Workday's internal HR AI strategy, ensuring all decisions related to AI adoption, implementation, and governance align to this strategy

  • Develop and secure formal approval for a comprehensive HR AI strategy and an implementation roadmap for FY27. This plan will include all recommendations on tools, governance, and metrics needed in partnership with Product

  • Partner with HR functional leads to deconstruct complex workflows and identify specific "pain points" where AI can drive efficiency or insight

  • Identify opportunities to be "Customer Zero" for Workday’s own AI products, providing critical feedback loops to our Product teams

  • Define a 1-2 year AI roadmap in partnership with Product and Enterprise AI, prioritizing projects based on value, risk, and strategic fit

  • Develop rigorous business cases for proposed initiatives and measure impact outcomes, moving beyond qualitative benefits to hard ROI, efficiency gains, and employee experience improvements

  • Proactively partner with leadership to advise on solutions and review strategy, including presentations to the People & Purpose Leadership Team (PPLT)

  • Manage the cross-functional delivery of the AI portfolio, overseeing implementation to ensure technical integrity. Proactively resolve project roadblocks and ensure functional teams (like TA and Talent Experience) align with the overall Enterprise AI strategy.

  • Design change management strategies that focus on behavioral shifts and upskilling, ensuring HR teams actually adopt the tools deployed

  • Manage the overall P&P AI technology budget

HR AI Tool & Solution Assessment:

  • Partner on conducting HR AI Tool Strategic Assessments, providing a clear overview of the current third-party AI solution landscape, identifying key players and their capabilities in the HR space, and how these intersect with our internal product roadmap

  • Build strategic partnerships with Workday Product, Business Technology and Enterprise AI teams to understand our internal AI product roadmap and priorities

  • Outline and recommend AI tool adoptions in partnership with Business Technology teams, providing a strategic, FY27 implementation plan that aligns with business goals and budget

  • Partner with Enterprise AI team to oversee, monitor and support the development of in-house agents

  • Build out “AI Literacy” across the P&P Organization

Governance, Portfolio Management & Risk:

  • Oversee P&P AI Technology Governance Committee

  • Manage interdependencies between all HR AI initiatives

  • Monitor total portfolio ROI and risk

  • Ensure portfolio compliance with AI governance policies

  • Report portfolio health and value realization to executive sponsors and extended stakeholders

  • Proactively manage project-level risks (especially bias/ethics) in partnership with Legal, Data Privacy, Security and Responsible AI teams.

  • Track and report program KPIs/OKRs

About You

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in program management, strategy, or consulting, with a strong focus on technology, particularly AI, within the Human Resources/People & Programs domain.

Other Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of developing and executing multi-year strategic roadmaps and business plans.

  • Demonstrated experience mapping complex business processes and identifying automation opportunities.

  • Deep understanding of the HR technology and AI landscape, including key vendors, emerging trends, and internal product development lifecycle (e.g., "buy vs. build" decision-making).

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical and strategic concepts to executive leadership (e.g., PPLT) and diverse stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and managing technology governance, portfolio management, and risk mitigation, especially concerning ethical AI and data privacy.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Technology, Human Resources, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.

Our Approach to Flexible Work

With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.

Pursuant to applicable Fair Chance law, Workday will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.

Workday is an Equal Opportunity Employer including individuals with disabilities and protected veterans.

At Workday, we are committed to providing an accessible and inclusive hiring experience where all candidates can fully demonstrate their skills. If you require assistance or an accommodation at any point, please email
