Linguistics Engineering Manager
Job Description
Meta is looking for a Manager to lead our Linguistics leadership team in designing and developing cutting-edge datasets, models, and representations that power AI multimodal assistants. As a leader, you'll supervise a team of managers and linguistic engineers, leveraging your expertise in management, research, and production to drive innovation and collaboration. Your key responsibilities will include setting clear direction, defining features that meet customer needs, and influencing system architecture decisions. You'll also apply state-of-the-art techniques to analyze user behavior and human language data, driving efforts to enhance downstream interactions and make a significant impact in a fast-paced environment.
- Develop and improve Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Natural Language Understanding (NLU), Dialog, Large Language Model (LLM), and Text-to-Speech (TTS) technologies
- Design and execute studies to evaluate model performance and identify areas for improvement
- Plan and implement technical initiatives for AI voice assistants programs, ensuring alignment with business objectives
- Provide scientific guidance to team members and partners, and mentor linguists and managers to enhance their skills and contributions
- Deploy solutions efficiently, analyze results, and refine processes to drive continuous improvement
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within scope
- Foster a respectful work environment, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve shared goals
Minimum Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in computational linguistics, data science, or software engineering with a focus on conversational AI and product/user experience improvements
- 7+ years of industry experience managing technical teams or managers for consumer-facing applications
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL, with experience in data analysis
- Experience with text analysis, scripting, relational databases, NoSQL databases, or similar technologies
- Proven track record in hiring, coaching, and managing technical teams
- Experience in shipping and evaluating AI/ML-based products, with an understanding of the relationship between data and machine learning models
- Produce meaningful quality insights from live traffic data across multiple modalities
- In depth collaboration skills, with experience working with internal and external teams
- Effective communication and influencing skills, and prior experience with cross-functional leaders and leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in one or more additional languages
- Experience in building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business applications
- Skilled in designing and conducting data experiments to drive insights and inform decision-making
- Proven experience with large-scale scripting projects, integrating language data from multiple sources, and computing complex metrics over extensive datasets
- Master's or PhD in Computational Linguistics, AI, speech programs, natural language processing, machine learning, or a related field

$183,000/year to $255,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
