Perplexity is looking for an engineering manager to join our small team revolutionizing the way people search and interact with the internet. You will be responsible for leading the data engineering team.

Engineers at Perplexity design, create, and ship systems that power product experiences across a growing stack. As we connect Perplexity to more data sources, data at Perplexity is growing quickly both in volume and number of use cases. To scale, we are investing in a growing data engineering team that will be responsible for building reusable tools for instrumentation, ingestion, and retrieval.

Responsibilities

Provide engineering leadership across multiple layers of a rapidly growing product.
Set standards for reliability, code quality, testing, and maintenance.
Oversee onboarding and ensure code quality for a growing team.
Collaborate closely with data science and machine learning teams to create reusable data sources.
Work closely with infrastructure, full-stack, and frontend teams to instrument logging and build reusable tooling.
Develop rigorous interview pipelines and work closely with recruiting to source candidates.

Qualifications

Ability to design reusable and scalable systems and processes.
Ability to constructively identify technical debt.
Ability to cleanly resolve engineering blockers.
Strong organizational skills for managing and delivering parallel technical projects.
Experience working with multiple small teams of engineers.
Experience leveraging the right combination of open source and in-house solutions.
Familiarity with AI/ML capabilities and limitations.
8+ years of engineering experience.
4+ years of engineering management experience.

Nice to Have

Experience with building data platforms for real-time indexing and retrieval.
Experience with AWS, Databricks, and Snowflake

Our cash compensation range for this role is $250,000 - $300,000.

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including, experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.

Equity: In addition to the base salary, equity is part of the total compensation package.
