About the Team:

The International Applied AI team builds and scales AI/ML solutions that power customer experiences and business operations across Walmart’s global markets. Working at the intersection of data, technology, and retail, the team develops advanced systems in Search, Personalization, Ads, Fraud Prevention, and Customer Insights. By collaborating with product, engineering, and business stakeholders worldwide, the team delivers data driven innovation that impacts millions of customers every day and drives Walmart’s mission of transforming retail through AI.

What you’ll do:

Strategic Leadership & Vision: Define and drive the data science strategy across Search, Personalization, Ads, Fraud Prevention, and Customer Insights for Walmart’s International markets. Champion AI/ML innovation, ensuring alignment with business goals and measurable customer impact.

Team Building & Talent Development: Lead, mentor, and scale high-performing data science and ML engineering teams at the Bangalore center of Walmart Global Tech. Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and delivery while building strong talent pipelines.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with global product, engineering, and business teams to co-create scalable data products. Translate complex business problems into actionable AI/ML solutions and influence senior stakeholders with insights and storytelling.

Model Development & Deployment: Oversee the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of ML models across personalization, ranking, ad relevancy, fraud detection, and customer insights. Ensure model robustness, fairness, explainability, and governance at scale.

Operational Excellence & Delivery: Drive end-to-end execution from problem framing through experimentation, deployment, and impact measurement. Set clear OKRs and KPIs to track outcomes, and establish processes for reusability, documentation, and knowledge sharing.

Innovation & Emerging Technologies: Stay ahead of trends in GenAI, LLMs, causal inference, and reinforcement learning to unlock next-gen opportunities.

What you’ll bring

• 15+ years of relevant experience in data science, advanced analytics, or AI/ML strategy, with a proven track record of leading large-scale, high-impact initiatives.

• Deep expertise in retail and e-commerce domains such as personalization, ads optimization, fraud prevention, customer insights, and search/retrieval systems. • Strong leadership background in building and scaling multi-disciplinary teams (Applied Scientists, Data scientists, ML engineers) in global or matrixed organizations.

• Proven ability to drive cross-functional initiatives by partnering with product, engineering, and business stakeholders across geographies.

• Technical depth in AI/ML systems including model development, deployment, and governance along with familiarity with emerging areas like GenAI, LLMs, causal inference, and reinforcement learning.

• Analytical rigor and strategic thinking to structure complex problems, derive insights, and translate them into measurable business outcomes.

• Excellent communication and executive storytelling skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership and diverse stakeholders.

• Experience operating in fast-paced, global environments, balancing innovation with execution discipline and operational excellence

Minimum Qualifications:Option 1: Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 6 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 2: Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 4 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 3: 8 years' experience in an analytics or related field. 2 years' supervisory experience.
