Data Scientist II, Drive Unit – Powertrain Data
Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and analytical Data Scientist to support the Powertrain Drive Unit team, focusing on electric motor systems, gear reduction, power electronics, and thermal management. This role will enable data-driven decision-making across design, R&D, manufacturing, and field operations by transforming raw data into actionable insights.
The ideal candidate will combine a solid foundation in data science with an understanding of engineering systems to deliver impactful analytics, enhance operational performance, and support product improvement initiatives. This includes developing robust dashboards, performing advanced analyses, and working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity and alignment with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define and monitor KPIs for electric drive systems, power electronics, and thermal subsystems.
- Develop interactive dashboards and automated reports to visualize system performance, degradation trends, and production health.
- Perform exploratory data analysis and statistical modeling to support root cause investigations and reliability engineering.
- Integrate physical modeling and sensor data to support predictive maintenance and anomaly detection use cases.
- Lead initiatives to improve data quality, standardization, and infrastructure scalability.
- Communicate technical findings to a broad audience, including executives, engineers, and manufacturing stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 2+ years, in Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.
- Proficient in Python, SQL, and PySpark for data analysis, automation, and visualization.
- Hands-on experience with dashboarding tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Apache Superset, or Plotly Dash.
- Understanding of data engineering practices including ETL pipelines, data lakes, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS).
- Strong problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, engineering-driven environment.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities across technical and nontechnical teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in mechanical or electrical engineering, with the ability to interpret component-level performance data (e.g., torque, temperature, efficiency, vibration).
- Experience with developing web-based data apps using Streamlit, Flask, or React.
- Familiarity with big data tools like PySpark, Apache Airflow, and distributed processing frameworks.
- Experience in automotive or EV domains, especially within motor control, inverter, or thermal management analytics.
