    Octagon AI is an exciting GenAI startup backed by SALT Fund and Andrew Ng's AI Fund. We provide a platform designed specifically for financial analyst workflows at major institutions (private equity firms, investment banks, asset managers, hedge funds, and more). We combine cutting-edge LLM capabilities with a plethora of real-time data sources to improve both the efficiency and productivity of finance professionals.

    We’ve already been joined by some of the best minds in finance and AI, and are looking for a backend engineer to join us. In this role, you will drive the development of a new Agent-RAG LLM solution. You will also play a leadership role in the company, and will see firsthand how a top-notch AI startup is built.

    We seek an exceptional and self-motivated Backend Software Engineer to join our core engineering team. The ideal teammate is an experienced professional looking to take ownership of the development of a new RAG LLM solution - from data pipelines to analyzing performance in a production environment. We use modern tools, which means you’ll have the opportunity to work with software like LLamaIndex, Langchain, GPT4+, and much more. Since you’ll be joining an early-stage startup at the ground level, you’ll need to be able to wear multiple hats and thrive while working in a dynamic environment.

    Responsibilities for the role include:

  • Working within all areas of the platform from our web interfaces and 3rd party API to backend integrations.
  • Making architectural contributions and decisions to constantly improve the reliability of our software and maintainability of our codebase.
  • Implementing test-driven code using modern techniques.
  • Following agile processes with a focus on delivering production-ready testable code in small iterations.

    Your skill set includes:

  • 4+ years of work experience as a Python backend engineer 
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience 
  • Expertise in Python demonstrated by implementing multiple production projects in frameworks such as Django, Flask or FastAPI
  • Experience with concepts in API development, Postgres, cloud computing, and data engineering.
  • Familiarity with generative LLM fine-tuning and prompt engineering
  • Curious to learn and assimilate information quickly, enthusiastic to share and teach others.
  • Keenly analytical and obsessed about problem-solving.
  • An outstanding communicator with sound interpersonal skills.
  • Strongly interested in fast-moving AI technologies and continuous learning.
  • Able to work autonomously and resourcefully in a fast-paced startup environment.

  • Professional experience designing, training and deploying machine learning models
  • Experience with big data pipeline technologies such as Spark, Kafka
  • Regular contributions to popular open source projects
  • Experience in the fintech industry
