Help advance the science and technology of intelligent machines

Assist in goal setting related to project impact and system architecture

Develop custom/novel architectures, define use cases, and develop methodology & benchmarks to evaluate different approaches

Apply in-depth knowledge of how the machine learning system interacts with the other systems around it

Technically lead in a team environment across multiple scientific and engineering disciplines, making the architectural trade-offs required to rapidly deliver software solutions

Mentor other AI Engineers & improve the quality of AI work in the broader team

Drive the team's goals and technical direction to pursue opportunities that make your larger organization more efficient

Effectively communicate complex features and systems in detail

Develop clean readable code and debug complex problems that span systems

Understand industry & company-wide trends to help assess & develop new technologies

Partner & collaborate with organization leaders to help improve the level of performance of the team & organization

Identify new opportunities for the larger organization & influence the appropriate people for staffing/prioritizing these new ideas

Work on research projects, strategies, and problems of moderate to high complexity and scope. Can identify and define both short and medium term objectives

Influence progress of relevant research communities by producing publications

Establish connections with cross-functional partners and contribute research with the goal of applying to Meta's product development

Design policies, processes, procedures, methods, tests, and/or components, from the ground up for end-to-end systems

Apply in-depth knowledge of how the machine learning system interacts with the other systems around it

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience

Specialized experience in one or more of the following machine learning/deep learning domains: NLP, reinforcement learning, deep learning, recommendation systems, pattern recognition, signal processing, data mining, artificial intelligence, information retrieval or computer vision

Experience developing language algorithms or language infrastructure in C/C++ or Python

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or relevant technical field

4+ years of work experience post PhD in a university, industry, or government lab(s), in a role with primary emphasis on AI research

4+ years of experience as technical lead for a project of 4 or more individuals

4+ years of experience with developing scalable machine learning models in at least one of the following areas: Crawling, indexing, extraction, retrieval, ranking, recommendations, measurement, tooling, evaluation, query understanding, planning, vector databases, or embeddings

Experience with large scale model training, implementing algorithms, and evaluating systems

Experience bringing machine learning-based products from research to production

Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and broad points of view to determine a path forward

Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment

First author publications experience at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, and ACL)

$213,000/year to $293,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
